Islam has abolished these atrocities and given women their dignity and respect as mothers, daughters, sisters and wives. Women have been given the right to education, property, consent to marriage and divorce. The Holy Quran and the Sunnah of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) have set equal spiritual and moral standards for both men and women. Although in practice, women are not given their rights in some societies, this is not the result of the teachings of Islam but rather a deviation from these teachings. Islam presents women not only as a gender but as a complete human being, a social builder and a spiritual personality.
